Chinese cabbage does indeed come from China and originates from near Beijing. The Chinese name is 大白菜 (dàbáicài), which translates to big white vegetable. This big white vegetable is closely related to turnips and rapeseed.

The plant is widely used in Asian cuisines but by now it is also grown in other parts of the world and therefore tasty recipes with all kind of influences are possible.
